Check out this interview with Dutch researcher Mirjam Tuk, who recently shared an Ig Nobel Prize with two colleagues for a study arguing that our efforts at self-control in one area – the study focused on bladder control – can help us be disciplined with other decisions, such as financial ones. The seemingly flippant focus of the study captures the essence of the Ig Nobel Prize, an American counterpart to the venerable Scandanavian institution, which “honors achievements that first make people laugh, and then make them think.”
