MATH LESSON: Cliff’s daily equation

Cliff Arnall has made a great discovery.

Dr. Arnall is a psychologist, a private pilot, a member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) since 1986, a member of The Delphinium Society (UK), and founder of a color-filled web site called (in all uppercase letters) NO PILLS. He wrote an equation that says that today is the happiest day of the year. His equation also says that a different day is the unhappiest day of the year.

An equation is a description. It describes something. If you want to describe something, you can write a sentence full of words, or you can write an equation.

Dr. Arnall shows us that, if you want people to pay attention to you, it’s much more efficient to write an equation than to write a sentence. This is Dr. Arnall’s triumphant discovery. We can all learn from it.

(Thanks to Josh Jasper for bringing this to our attention.)
