With inflatable dolls so much in the news this week, it’s a good time to remind ourselves about the medical report for which Ellen Kleist of Nuuk, Greenland and Harald Moi of Oslo, Norway were awarded the 1996 Ig Nobel Prize in public health:
“Transmission of Gonorrhea Through an Inflatable Doll“, Genitourinary Medicine, vol. 69, no. 4, Aug. 1993, p. 322. [click on the link to read the monograph.]
The recent news items are epitomized in these headlines: (1) blow-up doll responsible for South Middleton Township crash, police say; and (2) Pair rescued after ride on inflatable doll hits a snag.
The latter headline is from an article in the Herald Sun that includes a spectacular photograph, which we reproduce here [click on the image to go to the Herald Sun‘s site and see the original in its larger glory]:
[Thanks to investigators Amanda Palmer and Neil Gaiman for bringing the most recent of these incidents to our attention.]
