Simple: how some genes work together

Simplicity! This simple diagram hints, at a glance, at how very close scientists are to a simple understanding of how genes work together.

Titled “Gene Network Interaction Map for colitis-induced colon cancer”, the graph shows a few aspects of the “complex interplay of genetic, immunologic, and environmental influences on the etiology and pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)”, which of course is just a tiny, but perhaps symbolic part of the entire symphony of interactions that happen every moment (with the exception of those that happen only periodically or only sporadically) within the human organism. The diagram appears in the December 2010 issue of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy News. Thanks to investigator Rose Fox for bringing it to our attention.
