Do some nationalities survive a disaster better than others? A study by Bruno Frey, David Savage and Benno Torgler of the Queensland University of Technology and the University of Zurich explains: (1) that they do; and (2) why they do. So explains, in its turn, a January 26, 2009 Discovery News report:
Pushy Yanks saved themselves on Titanic
Brits politely queued up for lifeboats while Americans pushed to be first
British passengers on board the sinking Titanic died while politely queuing to get their place on a lifeboat, while Americans pushed their way on, according to new analysis of passenger data.
Their study has now been published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
