The use of the Clinical Charts for History, Treatment Plan and Special Investigations is a guide to assist establishing a definitive diagnosis, as opposed to a presumptive diagnosis. The type of Oral Malodor, or combinations thereof, should be defined.
So says the official guide to using the special charts prepared by Dr. Louis Touyz, the Director of the Division of Periodontology, Faculty of Dentistry, McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
Dr. Touyz has written that:
Oral malodor is a generic descriptor term for foul smells emanating from the mouth. The term does not imply any source or causation, per se. It is an aid to diagnosis and includes ozostomia, stomatodysodia, halitosis, and fetor ex ore/fetor oris.
Dr. Touyz seems to be associated with a device called a Halimeter, as, apparently, is a blonde woman in a come-hither photograph.
