It is now official: An 82-year-old former professor beat a 41-year-old woman in court, after beating her in a bedroom. The March 24, 2006 issue of MidHudsonNews reports:
Mistrial declared in sexual assault case of ex-prof
A mistrial has been declared in the trial of former SUNY New Paltz professor Wade Thompson, 82, who was accused of sexually assaulting a 41-year-old female student…. The judge declared the mistrial based on a request by defense attorney Ben Ostrer, who questioned the contentions of the victim. The woman claimed Thompson whipped her, causing bruises. But, Ostrer raised the question of whether the whipping on April 19, 2005 was consensual.
An April 10, 2003 article in the New Paultz Oracle, published while Professor Thompson was still teaching, quotes his department secretary as saying:
He is remembered for his slow, methodical and respectful manner.
