Racetrack players classify horses. John Rosencrance classified the players: “You Can’t Tell the Players Without A Scorecard: A Typology of Horse Players,” John Rosecrance, Deviant Behaviour, vol. 7, 1986, pp. 77–97. Ted McClelland later built on that work and his own observations to produce a book called Horseplayers: Life at the Track.
