A further small mystery about Matt Talbot
We have just encountered another small mystery about Matt Talbot. Talbot is the loner whose corpse-girdling chains and cords attracted people’s attention after he dropped dead in 1925 on Granby Lane, Dublin, a few steps away from a church. We profiled him in a recent Guardian column. The grainy photograph here is the only known image of the man, enlarged from a group photo taken at his one-time place of employ.
Today we learned (thanks to Crooked Timber) that 1911 census data for the city of Dublin is newly available online. A search for Talbot turned up no Matts or Matthews.
Is the census data not entirely online? Or did the census overlook Matt Talbot? We invite you to join in the detective work. If you track down any good new Matt Talbot tidbits, send them here.
