This photo shows Howard Stapleton, the 2006 Ig Nobel Peace Prize winner, holding his Ig Nobel Prize. Stapleton was honored for
inventing an electromechanical teenager repellant — a device that makes annoying high-pitched noise designed to be audible to teenagers but not to adults; and for later using that same technology to make telephone ringtones that are audible to teenagers but probably not to their teachers.
The photo was taken Friday night, March 9, 2007 at the Julian Hodge Lecture Theatre at Cardiff University, at the first major event on this year’s Ig Nobel Tour of the UK. The tour is for National Science and Engineering Week.? The tour schedule included events over the next few days in Bristol, London, Portsmouth, London (again) and Cambridge.
NOTE: This photo was taken by 2003 Ig Nobel Biology Prize winner Kees Moeliker, who is also featured in the tour. Moeliker will be appearing in every show. Stapleton will be making only one more appearance — at the London show at Imperial College on Thursday evening, March 15.
FURTHER NOTE: We hope to have video of the Imperial College show available on the web a day or two after the show occurs.
