Ig Nobel winners in San Diego Friday

Ig Nobel Prize winners will descend upon San Diego this Friday night, February 19.

This special session is free and open to the public (but seating is limited, so get there early). It’s in the San Diego Marriott and Marina, in the Seaview Room, at 8:00 pm.  Details involve bras, string, knuckle-cracking, romantic love, dancing, and rectal objects.

It’s the annual Improbable Research show at the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s annual meeting. (twitter: #igAAAS10) Scott LaFee wrote a preview in the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The lineup includes: Ig Nobel Prize winners Dr. Elena Bodnar (emergency bra/mask), Dr. Donald Unger (60 years of knuckle-cracking), Dorian Raymer (string inevitably tangles itself into knots); and Dr. Hagop Akiskal (romantic love is biochemically indistinguishable from obsessive-compulsive disorder) as well as two splendid improbable researchers: Miriam Sach, Ph.D., who will dance her dissertation; Dr. Beatrice Golomb (objects found in patients’ rectums).
