Three Aspects of the Nose
Here are three perhaps under-appreciated attempts to assess subtle, perhaps scientific, aspects of the nose.
Noses, General, 1
""Feminine Significance of the Nose," Psychoanalytic Quarterly, L.J. Saul, vol. 17, 1948, pp. 51-7.
Noses, General, 2
"Acupuncture Exercises for the Nose: Improving Respiration, Energy (Qi) and the Sense of Smell," R.A. Dale, American Journal of Acupuncture, vol. 18, no. 3, 1990, pp. 271-6. In the study, "men and women estimated the pleasantness and intensity of the odors of vaginal secretions sampled from consecutive phases of 15 ovulatory menstrual cycles of four women." The authors concluded that:
"human vaginal odors change slightly in both pleasantness and intensity during the menstrual cycle but do not support the notion that such odours are particularly attractive to humans."
Noses, Blowing
“How and Why the Nose Runs," G.D. Raphael, et al., Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, vol. 87, no. 2, 1991, pp. 457-67.
