Are sans-serif fonts difficult to read?

Some researchers contend that sans-serif fonts — characters that have no adorning caps and shoes — are difficult to read. Here is an example of a sans-serif font. Called “leg hair font”, it was designed, says the Asiajin blog, by a Tama Art University student called Mayuko:
