Ig Nobel on “Science Friday” this Friday

This Friday comes a once-a-year special treat on the National Public Radio program “Science Friday“.  It’s the (19th!) annual day-after-Thanksgiving specially edited version of the year’s (the 20th!) Ig Nobel Prize ceremony.

WHEN: Friday, November 26, 2010. It will be the first hour of the two-hour “Science Friday” program. In most—but not all!—cities this will be from 2:00-3:00 pm. (Some NPR stations schedule it at other times.) Many stations also stream the broadcast online.

We always enjoy this for many reasons. One is to see how the SciFri editors will choose and arrange, and how host Ira Flatow will describe highlights from the vast, cornucopic ceremony, and distill all of it into a single radio hour.

There’s also always a special charm to listening to what happened. So many things occur, so quickly, in such rapid succession that it can be overwhelming to be at the event and try to take in all the sounds and sights (and this year, the bacteria — for that was the year’s theme). So listening, purely listening, allows one to savor the moments in a new way.
