Glug-Glugian “splash”er at Long Beach

Christophe Clanet, Chargé de recherche (CNRS) at the Laboratoire d’hydrodynamique (LadHyX), Paris, is co-author of one of the very few research papers on idealised bottle glug-glug (or, in the original French, Glou Glou ) ( see : Improbable Research, December 8th, 2005 )
He will be at Long Beach, California in late November to present an invited session at the 63rd Annual Meeting of the American Physical Society, Division of Fluid Dynamics (DFD).

“I was looking for a term which could encompass the research done over the last 15 years on inertial motions at liquid interfaces.”

– explains Clanet

“A suggestive word which could connect, water bells, Taylor bubbles, skipping stones, air cavities. I tried my best but I didn’t find better than Splashes.”

His talk ‘Splashes’ is scheduled between 2:00 PM and 2:35 PM, Monday, November 22, 2010 at the Long Beach Convention Center, Grand Ballroom B.
