Schaal’s Smells

“Rating and Recognition of Peers’ Personal Odors by 9-year-old Children: An Exploratory Study,” Pascal Mallet and Benoist Schaal, Journal of General Psychology, vol. 125, no. 1, January 1998, pp. 47–64 (http://tinyurl.com/cd42f6).

The authors, at the Institut National d’Etude du Travail et d’Orientation Professionnelle in Paris, France, report:

Eighteen elementary school children assessed the pleasantness and perfumed aspect of familiar peers’ odors, sampled through tee shirts worn without modification of hygienic habits.
