Green glow the pigs

Scientists in Taiwan say they have bred three pigs that glow in the dark.

They claim that while other researchers have bred partly fluorescent pigs, theirs are the only pigs in the world which are green through and through.

The pigs are transgenic, created by adding genetic material from jellyfish into a normal pig embryo.

So says a January 12, 2006 BBC report which includes a photo.

Although the creation and publicizing of these pigs is in some sense promotional, the pigs themselves are presumably — in contrast to the (pink) Alpi? ASI# 34415 – 4M072G Glow pigs or the (green) Rocket USA Glow in the Dark pigs — not mere promotional toys.

(Thanks to Tatiana Divens and  James LaMunyon for bringing the Taiwan pigs to our attention.)
