Incompetence and spam

Two past Ig Nobel Prize winners are in the news.

David Dunning, lead author of the 2000 Ig Nobel Psychology Prize winning report  "Unskilled and Unaware of It: How Difficulties in Recognizing One’s Own Incompetence Lead to Inflated Self-Assessments," has continued to publish papers and now a book on the subject. Details are in an October 5, 2005 press release issued by Cornell University.

The consumers of spam, who were awarded the 1992 Ig Nobel Nutrition Prize  "for 54 years of undiscriminating digestion" are the subject of a quasi-investigative report in the October 15, 2005 issue of the Los Angeles Times.

(Thanks to Kristine Danowski for bringing the news of Professor Dunning’s new work to our attention.)
